Refugee Health Outreach

Are you interested in health? Do you enjoy volunteering in your community? Then UTIHP's COSTI Refugee Health Outreach Project is for you! The COSTI centre is the only one of its kind in Canada to accept Government Assisted Refugees as well as Refugee Claimants. The centre was created in the 1950s to serve the influx of Italian refugees that arrived in Canada. Half a century later, it serves many other ethnic groups as well; they arrive in Canada from Afghanistan, Iran, Somalia, and many other countries affected by civil war. Up to 120 refugees are housed at any one time.

Description: The Refugee Health Outreach Project is one of UTIHP's gems. The project encourages students to participate in seminars every 3-4 weeks to educate the refugees about how to access the Ontario Health System.
