High School Partnership Program

HSPP

The High school Partnership Program is a student-led organization created under the umbrella of the University of Toronto International Health Program & the Centre for International Health as a means to integrate students from both the high school and university level.  As students with a common interest in global health equality, we believe that we have a role to play in educating youth enabling them to forge a path in creating opportunities for changing the world in which they live.

The theme of the 2009 High School Partnership Program Conference is refugee health, and will aim to expose students to a broad range of perspectives that will not only expand their current knowledge, but also question their pre-existing beliefs and assumptions.  It is our goal to stress the importance of the underlying socio-political-economic environment that is crucial in the understanding and analysis of global health issues.  Through this conference, we hope to engage high school students and empower them to take action in pursuing their interest in international health by providing a forum for discussion, case study activities, interactive workshops, and presentations by various members of the professional community currently involved in international health as well as an NGO fair.

Our objective is to increase awareness of global health issues amongst Toronto-area secondary school students and to facilitate the translation of this awareness into effective action.

HSPP is currently looking for student groups interested in global health issues to play a part at the conference, as well as motivated individuals to join our sub-committees or as a general volunteer. We are currently looking for directors for NGO recruitment, High school liaison, public relations and marketing, among others.
